PVR or personal video recorder is video recording device from TV that has a set-top box. This is named a lot as DVR or digital video recorder, PTR or personal TV receiver, PVS or personal video station and HDR hard disk recorder.

How a PVR work

It is basically made up of two elements hardware and software and it records and plays back television programs in high definition video format but contrasting a VCR, instead of storing programs in analog, it stores in digital. But like a VCR, the PVR has ability to rewind, pause, stop and fast-forward a program that is recorded. It is able to record a program, replay this program almost immediately with a minor time lag it seems to be a live program. A HD PVR has many capabilities that include indexing, time marking, and non-linear editing etc. it encodes incoming video streams in MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or any other supported format and stores it on a hard disk. HD PVR is a High-Definition video recorder to make real time compressed recordings like H.264 with a resolution of 1080. It records as YCrCb both from cable TV and satellite set top boxes, using a built-in IR blaster that automatically changes TV channels for scheduled recording.
